Roy Nelson got a chance to speak at Thursday's UFC 146 press conference, but his beard remained silent. That is, until now. In a Cagewriter exclusive, Roy Nelson's Beard (RNB) spoke about its past, future, and what it brings to Nelson's game.
Cagewriter: How are you feeling today?
RNB: Good. Full. Ready to take on Dave Herman.
CW: How long have you been with Roy?
RNB: Well, I've been a part of his life for some time, but it was just in the past year or so that Roy really let me shine. He and I push each other to make each other great. It's truly a symbiotic relationship.
CW: What do you bring to his MMA game?
RNB: What DON'T I bring to his game? Striking, wrestling, jiu-jitsu, I taught him all of that. When he and his coaches come up with his game plan, they turn to me for advice. TKOing "Cro Cop"? That was all me.
CW: So then do you also take the blame for the fact he's lost three of his last four bouts?
RNB: Well, we're a team. We lose together, y'know? It's not just Roy out there. It's me, the belly, the mullet.
CW: Is there ever a rivalry between you?
RNB: Well, I'll let you in on a secret. The belly is TOTALLY jealous of me. He always used to get all the attention, but since Roy has been getting in better shape, he's lost prominence. Now it's all eyes on me.
CW: Has Roy talked to you about the future? Will he definitely keep you around or is there discussion of ... a razor?
RNB? Why would you ask such a thing? That's sick. Seriously. A razor? To what? Shave me off? You don't shave me off. You don't get rid of a glorious beard like this one. Are you crazy. I'm done. Interview's over.
CW: Well, thanks for your time.

Either Ken Shamrock has another brother besides Frank that we don't know about, or he's moonlighting as a Russian motorcycle gang leader. The above pic is 100 percent real, and it was taken at a Russian biker event, which was attended by Russian president Vladimir Putin. The guy on the left is the top dog in a Russian Biker gang and goes by the name Alexander Zaldostanov. His nickname is The Surgeon, and honestly, I don't want to know why they call him that.
Putin is supposed to be a very charismatic leader, but in the pic, it's all eyes on Ken--I mean Alexander. Even Putin himself seems star struck at meeting a guy who looks remarkably like the World's Most Dangerous Man. And probably is. Turns out that Putin is a big fan of the biker scene, and after the jump you can check him out riding a three wheel monster bike.
The big question is: Has anyone ever seen Ken Shamrock and Alexander Zaldostanov in the same room at the same time? I don't think so!
Here's the Putin pic

After his arrest for a DUI early Saturday morning, Jon Jones posted a statement on his Facebook page. He started by saying he "screwed up big time."
"I'm truly sorry to those of you that I may have embarrassed in any way, to those of you with kids that I may have let down. I will prove to them as well as to myself that no matter what is happening in life, we can always work our way back and make things even better than before."
Jones' manager, Malki Kawa, went on MMA Weekly Radio and pleaded for fans to give Jones a chance.
"I would just kind of like to let the fans know to give him a chance. Give yourself a chance to get all the facts in yourselves, wait until everything gets said and done, and then at that point if you want to vilify him afterwards and you heard him speak and you heard him say his part and then vilify him, I can't control what people are going to say. But it is too soon; it is too quick in my opinion. He really is a decent guy. He's a very, very good guy, trying his hardest to be a good role model, a good example, and he wants to be that. No one's perfect and he's never said he was and never said that he doesn't make mistakes. It's a fact he made a mistake. He messed up and I'm sure he's going to come out and apologize and do what he's got to do."
I've been surprised by the amount and type of vitriol aimed towards Jones for this incident. I find drunk driving deplorable and have no problem with Jones (if found guilty) or anyone else who is found guilty of such reckless, selfish, disgusting behavior spending a whole lot of time in a jail cell.
But the comments here, on Facebook and on Twitter have had a gleeful tone. Too many people are happy that Jones screwed up. Let's be clear here. Jones could have killed someone. Jones could have killed himself. This arrest is no reason to rejoice.
